Frequently Asked Questions
What is Cellarcoin?
A wine cellar first. We hold physical bottles in a bonded, climate-controlled chamber under their owner’s name, each one entered in the register under its own lot number. The title you hold is the shortest way to prove that lot is yours.
How do I create an account?
With an email address and a password, from the sign-up page. That is enough to read the register, take a lot, hold it and redeem it. If you already keep a crypto wallet you can link it later and custody the title yourself, but nothing requires you to have one.
How do I pay?
The price on the lot page is the price of the wine. Settlement runs on Polygon, which is what lets a title change hands without the bottle moving; you do not have to operate any of that yourself. A marketplace fee applies when a lot changes hands, and every charge is itemised before you confirm.
Can I sell a lot instead of drinking it?
Yes, at any time, and the bottle stays where it is while the title changes owner. Go to your collection, select the lot, choose "Sell" and set your price. The price is whatever a buyer will pay: we do not quote, forecast or guarantee valuations.
How do I get the physical bottle?
From your collection, select the lot and choose "Redeem". You confirm a shipping address, and any duties or taxes due on release are shown before you confirm. The bottle leaves the chamber in climate-controlled transit and the title is retired as it goes, so a lot can only ever be claimed once.
What happens to my bottle while you hold it?
It lies down, in the dark, between 12 and 14 °C at stable humidity, insured at replacement value. Your lot’s record shows the reading taken from the sensor, the humidity and the date it entered custody, and you can read it at any hour. Ask us and we will send you the custody and insurance documentation.
