Showing 33 terms

Appellation

Wine Terms

A legally defined and protected geographical indication used to identify where wine grapes were grown. Different regions have specific regulations about grape varieties, winemaking practices, and quality standards.

Barrel Aging

Wine Terms

The process of maturing wine in oak barrels, which imparts flavors, tannins, and complexity. The type of oak (French, American) and barrel age significantly affect the wine's final character.

Blockchain

Blockchain & NFT

A decentralized, distributed digital ledger that records transactions across multiple computers. Ensures transparency, immutability, and security. Foundation of cryptocurrency and NFT technology.

Bordeaux

Wine Terms

A prestigious wine region in southwestern France known for exceptional red wine blends, primarily made from Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Home to renowned châteaux like Margaux and Lafite.

Burgundy

Wine Terms

A French wine region renowned for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Known for complex terroir classifications (Grand Cru, Premier Cru) and some of the world's most expensive wines.

Burn (NFT)

Blockchain & NFT

The permanent removal of an NFT from circulation by sending it to an unrecoverable wallet address. In Cellarcoin, NFTs are burned upon redemption of the physical bottle.

Château

Wine Terms

French term for a wine estate, particularly in Bordeaux. Refers to both the physical property and the wine produced there. Examples: Château Margaux, Château Lafite.

En Primeur

Wine Terms

The practice of purchasing wine as futures while it's still in barrel, before bottling. Common in Bordeaux. Allows collectors to secure allocation of rare wines at potentially lower prices.

Floor Price

Marketplace

The lowest listed price for an NFT in a collection. Indicates the minimum amount you need to enter that collection. Used as a baseline for collection value.

Gas Fee

Blockchain & NFT

Transaction fees paid to blockchain validators/miners for processing transactions. On Polygon (Cellarcoin's blockchain), gas fees are typically very low, often less than $0.01.

Grand Cru

Wine Terms

French classification indicating the highest quality vineyards, especially in Burgundy and Alsace. Wines from Grand Cru vineyards are typically more expensive and age-worthy.

IPFS

Blockchain & NFT

InterPlanetary File System - A decentralized storage network where NFT images and metadata are stored. Ensures your NFT data persists even if Cellarcoin's website goes offline.

Listing

Marketplace

When an NFT owner puts their token up for sale on the marketplace at a specified price. Listings can be canceled at any time before purchase.

Marketplace Fee

Marketplace

A percentage of the sale price that Cellarcoin charges for facilitating transactions. Typically 2-5%. This fee supports platform operations and development.

MATIC

Blockchain & NFT

The native cryptocurrency of the Polygon blockchain network. Used on Cellarcoin for purchasing NFTs and paying transaction fees. Much faster and cheaper than Ethereum.

MetaMask

Blockchain & NFT

A popular cryptocurrency wallet browser extension that allows users to interact with blockchain applications. Required to connect to Cellarcoin and manage your NFTs.

Minting

Blockchain & NFT

The process of creating a new NFT on the blockchain. When a winery tokenizes a wine bottle, they "mint" an NFT representing ownership of that physical bottle.

NFT (Non-Fungible Token)

Blockchain & NFT

A unique digital asset stored on the blockchain that represents ownership of something specific (in Cellarcoin's case, a physical wine bottle). Unlike cryptocurrencies, each NFT is unique.

Polygon

Blockchain & NFT

An Ethereum Layer 2 scaling solution that offers faster and cheaper transactions. Cellarcoin operates on Polygon to provide affordable wine NFT trading.

Primary Market

Marketplace

Initial sales of NFTs directly from the winery/brand to collectors. These are "first-hand" purchases of newly minted wine NFTs.

Private Key / Seed Phrase

Blockchain & NFT

A secret code that proves ownership of your cryptocurrency wallet. NEVER share this with anyone. Losing it means permanently losing access to your NFTs and funds.

Provenance

Wine Terms

The documented history of a wine bottle's ownership, storage conditions, and authenticity. Critical for high-value wines. Blockchain technology enhances provenance tracking.

Redemption

Marketplace

The process of exchanging your wine NFT for the physical bottle. The NFT is permanently burned, and the bottle is shipped to you from climate-controlled storage.

Royalty

Marketplace

A percentage of secondary sales that goes back to the original creator (winery). For example, a 5% royalty means the winery earns 5% every time their NFT is resold.

Secondary Market

Marketplace

Trading of NFTs between collectors after the initial sale. Like a stock market for wine NFTs. Prices are determined by supply, demand, and market conditions.

Smart Contract

Blockchain & NFT

Self-executing code on the blockchain that automatically enforces agreement terms. Cellarcoin uses smart contracts to manage NFT sales, transfers, and redemptions.

Terroir

Wine Terms

The complete natural environment in which wine is produced, including soil, topography, and climate. French concept emphasizing how location affects wine character and quality.

Trading Volume

Marketplace

The total value of all NFT transactions on the marketplace over a specific period. Indicates market activity and liquidity. Cellarcoin has exceeded $76M in trading volume.

Verified Collection

Marketplace

Collections from authenticated wineries and brands that have completed identity verification (KYC). The blue checkmark ensures you're buying from legitimate sources.

Vintage

Wine Terms

The year grapes were harvested. Vintage quality varies significantly based on weather conditions. Some years produce exceptional wines that age better and command higher prices.

Wallet Address

Blockchain & NFT

A unique identifier (like 0x742d35...) that serves as your blockchain "account number". Used to receive NFTs and cryptocurrency. Publicly visible on the blockchain.

Wash Trading

Marketplace

Illegal practice where someone repeatedly buys and sells the same NFT to artificially inflate trading volume and price. Strictly prohibited on Cellarcoin.

Web3

Blockchain & NFT

The next generation of the internet built on blockchain technology, enabling decentralized applications (dApps) like Cellarcoin where users control their own data and assets.
